:: Overview
Led by Cory Heath (Palomar), Project Leda is a joint project involving students from Palomar College, Mira Costa College, and California State University San Marcos. The primary objective is to send a weather balloon approximately 90,000 ft. in the upper Stratosphere and, from there, perform a mid-air rocket launch.
To overcome all challenges between design and completing the primary objective, departments have been created for specific elements of the project. These departments include (but are not limited to) rocket design, instrumentation, and recovery. This allows team members to work where their skills are most effective but also to receive exposure to and experience with tasks relating to fields of interest. For more information on the project's departments, see the department page.
Students of any major are welcome to join the project. The team already features a variety of majors including nanotechnology, computer science, materials engineering, applied physics, and electrical and computer engineering.
